What is physiotherapy?

Physiotherapy is a degree-based healthcare profession that helps restore movement and function when someone is affected by injury, illness or disability. This is achieved by manual therapy, exercise, education and advice.

Physiotherapy is a science-based profession that maintains health for people of all ages, helping patients to manage pain and prevent disease. Phil takes a ‘whole person’ approach to health and wellbeing, which includes the patient’s general lifestyle.

What is sports science?

Sports science is the study of how the healthy human body works during exercise, and how sport and physical activity promote health, physically, mentally and socially. 

The study of sport science incorporates many other academic studies and areas, like physiology, psychology, anatomy, engineering and chemistry.

 

Being qualified in anatomy and physiology the aim to develop knowledge and understanding of the basic structure and function of the human body and determine how this knowledge can be used to improve health and/or performance. Furthermore, environmental physiology gives the opportunity to discuss the limits to human performance and survival.

What is remedial massage?

Remedial massage (also called Sports Massage) is effective for many kinds of muscular and soft tissue problems as well as injury, whether it is due to posture, occupational stress or sporting activities.

 

It can be an integral part of a training or fitness program for all those involved in physical activity, whether you are an amateur or a professional sportsperson.

 

In remedial massage techniques such as effleurage and petrissage can help to relax tense muscles. 

 

Further techniques, such as friction, mobilisation, soft tissue release (STR), muscle energy techniques (MET) and neuromuscular techniques (NMT) can be applied to help mobilise joints, reduce pain and give a psychological sense of well being.
